| Life and
Death
Old
Testament
In the sweat of thy face shalt
thou eat bread, till thou return unto the
ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for
dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou
return. Genesis 3:19
And said, Naked came I out of
my mother's womb, and naked shall I return
thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath
taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.
Job 1:21
LORD, make me to know mine
end, and the measure of my days, what it is;
that I may know how frail I am. Psalms 39:4
As far as the east is from the west, so far
hath he removed our transgressions from us.
Like as a father pitieth his children, so the
LORD pitieth them that fear him. For he
knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are
dust. As for man, his days are as grass: as a
flower of the field, so he flourisheth. For
the wind passeth over it, and it is gone; and
the place thereof shall know it no more.
Psalms 103:12-16
Boast not thyself of to
morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may
bring forth. Proverbs 27:1
For man also knoweth not his
time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil
net, and as the birds that are caught in the
snare; so are the sons of men snared in an
evil time, when it falleth suddenly upon them.
Ecclesiastes 9:12
New
Testament
And he spake a parable unto
them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man
brought forth plentifully: And he thought
within himself, saying, What shall I do,
because I have no room where to bestow my
fruits? And he said, This will I do: I will
pull down my barns, and build greater; and
there will I bestow all my fruits and my
goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou
hast much goods laid up for many years; take
thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God
said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul
shall be required of thee: then whose shall
those things be, which thou hast provided? So
is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and
is not rich toward God. Luke 12:16-21
For whether we live, we live
unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto
the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die,
we are the Lord's. Romans 14:8
O death, where is thy sting? O
grave, where is thy victory? The sting of
death is sin; and the strength of sin is the
law. But thanks be to God, which giveth us the
victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast,
unmoveable, always abounding in the work of
the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your
labour is not in vain in the Lord. 1
Corinthians 15:55-58
For we brought nothing into
this world, and it is certain we can carry
nothing out. 1 Timothy 6:7
And as it is appointed unto
men once to die, but after this the judgment:
Hebrews 9:27
Whereas ye know not what shall
be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is
even a vapour, that appeareth for a little
time, and then vanisheth away. For that ye
ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live,
and do this, or that. But now ye rejoice in
your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.
James 4:14-16
