| Man's
Depravity
Old
Testament
And the LORD smelled a sweet
savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will
not again curse the ground any more for man's
sake; for the imagination of man's heart is
evil from his youth; neither will I again
smite any more every thing living, as I have
done. Genesis 8:21
Have mercy upon me, O God,
according to thy lovingkindness: according
unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot
out my transgressions. Wash me throughly from
mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For
I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is
ever before me. Against thee, thee only, have
I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight:
that thou mightest be justified when thou
speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.
Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin
did my mother conceive me. Behold, thou
desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the
hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.
Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean:
wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Make
me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones
which thou hast broken may rejoice. Hide thy
face from my sins, and blot out all mine
iniquities. Create in me a clean heart, O God;
and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me
not away from thy presence; and take not thy
holy spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy
of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free
spirit. Psalms 51:1-12
Do ye indeed speak
righteousness, O congregation? do ye judge
uprightly, O ye sons of men? Yea, in heart ye
work wickedness; ye weigh the violence of your
hands in the earth. The wicked are estranged
from the womb: they go astray as soon as they
be born, speaking lies. Psalms 58:1-3
Wisdom strengtheneth the wise
more than ten mighty men which are in the
city. For there is not a just man upon earth,
that doeth good, and sinneth not. Also take no
heed unto all words that are spoken; lest thou
hear thy servant curse thee: For oftentimes
also thine own heart knoweth that thou thyself
likewise hast cursed others. Ecclesiastes
7:19-22
But we are all as an unclean
thing, and all our righteousnesses are as
filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and
our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us
away. Isaiah 64:6
New
Testament
For all have sinned, and come
short of the glory of God; Being justified
freely by his grace through the redemption
that is in Christ Jesus: Romans 3:23-24
As it is written, There is none righteous, no,
not one: There is none that understandeth,
there is none that seeketh after God. They are
all gone out of the way, they are together
become unprofitable; there is none that doeth
good, no, not one. Romans 3:10-12
But God commendeth his love toward us, in
that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died
for us. Much more then, being now justified by
his blood, we shall be saved from wrath
through him. For if, when we were enemies, we
were reconciled to God by the death of his
Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be
saved by his life. And not only so, but we
also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
by whom we have now received the atonement.
Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the
world, and death by sin; and so death passed
upon all men, for that all have sinned: Romans
5:8-12
And you hath he quickened, who
were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in
time past ye walked according to the course of
this world, according to the prince of the
power of the air, the spirit that now worketh
in the children of disobedience: Among whom
also we all had our conversation in times past
in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the
desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were
by nature the children of wrath, even as
others. Ephesians 2:1-3
