| Human Pride
Old
Testament
Pride goeth
before destruction, and an haughty spirit
before a fall. Proverbs 16:18
Boast not
thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not
what a day may bring forth. Let another man
praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a
stranger, and not thine own lips. Proverbs
27:1-2
But we are
all as an unclean thing, and all our
righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all
do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like
the wind, have taken us away. Isaiah 64:6
New
Testament
And why
beholdest thou the mote that is in thy
brother's eye, but considerest not the beam
that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say
to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out
of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine
own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the
beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou
see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy
brother's eye. Matthew 7:3-5
But he that
is greatest among you shall be your servant.
And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be
abased; and he that shall humble himself shall
be exalted. Matthew 23:11-12
For I say, through the grace given unto me,
to every man that is among you, not to think
of himself more highly than he ought to think;
but to think soberly, according as God hath
dealt to every man the measure of faith.
Romans 12:3
For if a man think himself to be something,
when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself. But
let every man prove his own work, and then
shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and
not in another. Galatians 6:3-4
My brethren, have not the faith of our Lord
Jesus Christ, the Lord of glory, with respect
of persons. For if there come unto your
assembly a man with a gold ring, in goodly
apparel, and there come in also a poor man in
vile raiment; And ye have respect to him that
weareth the gay clothing, and say unto him,
Sit thou here in a good place; and say to the
poor, Stand thou there, or sit here under my
footstool: Are ye not then partial in
yourselves, and are become judges of evil
thoughts? Hearken, my beloved brethren, Hath
not God chosen the poor of this world rich in
faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he hath
promised to them that love him? But ye have
despised the poor. Do not rich men oppress
you, and draw you before the judgment seats?
James 2:1-6
Whereas ye know not what shall be on the
morrow. For what is your life? It is even a
vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and
then vanisheth away. For that ye ought to say,
If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this,
or that. But now ye rejoice in your boastings:
all such rejoicing is evil. James 4:14-16 |
