| Humility And
Servitude
New
Testament
At the same
time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying,
Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?
And Jesus called a little child unto him, and
set him in the midst of them, And said, Verily
I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and
become as little children, ye shall not enter
into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever
therefore shall humble himself as this little
child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of
heaven. Matthew 18:1-4
And, behold,
one came and said unto him, Good Master, what
good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal
life? And he said unto him, Why callest thou
me good? there is none good but one, that is,
God: Matthew 19:16-17
But so shall
it not be among you: but whosoever will be
great among you, shall be your minister: And
whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall
be servant of all. For even the Son of man
came not to be ministered unto, but to
minister, and to give his life a ransom for
many. Mark 10:43-45
He riseth
from supper, and laid aside his garments; and
took a towel, and girded himself. After that
he poureth water into a bason, and began to
wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them
with the towel wherewith he was girded. Then
cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto
him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet? Jesus
answered and said unto him, What I do thou
knowest not now; but thou shalt know
hereafter. Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt
never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I
wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.
Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet
only, but also my hands and my head. John
13:4-9
Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say
well; for so I am. If I then, your Lord and
Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought
to wash one another's feet. For I have given
you an example, that ye should do as I have
done to you. Verily, verily, I say unto you,
The servant is not greater than his lord;
neither he that is sent greater than he that
sent him. John 13:13-16
Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away,
and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye
would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the
Father: for my Father is greater than I. John
14:28
O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver
me from the body of this death? I thank God
through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with
the mind I myself serve the law of God; but
with the flesh the law of sin. Romans 7:24-25
For I am the least of the apostles, that am
not meet to be called an apostle, because I
persecuted the church of God. But by the grace
of God I am what I am: and his grace which was
bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I
laboured more abundantly than they all: yet
not I, but the grace of God which was with me.
1 Corinthians 15:9-10
